To register, complete the Registration Form, and mail, fax, or call (with credit card payment) or hand-deliver with tuition plus applicable membership and material fee(s) to:

The registration deadline is four days before each class begins.

  • Class enrollment is taken on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Registration is complete when we are in receipt of FULL payment.
  • NO CONFIRMATIONS ARE SENT.
  • If a student enrolls in a class with the instructor’s approval after the session has begun, full tuition is still required. Tuition is not prorated.
  • All classes held at the Des Moines Art Center unless otherwise indicated.

Scholarships

There are a limited number of scholarships available for students with financial need. To request a scholarship application, please call 515.271.0335.

Membership

Members receive a 20% discount on the cost of tuition and enjoy benefits all year! Memberships help support the museum’s operations and programs. Memberships are nonrefundable. Discounted tuition on child enrollment is available only with a household-level membership and above.

Low enrollment: Don’t wait until the last minute to register. The Art Center reserves the right to cancel classes due to insufficient enrollment without incurring obligation.

Refunds

Membership fees are nonrefundable. If a class or workshop is canceled by the Art Center, you are entitled to a full tuition and material fee refund. Tuition and material fee (less a $15 processing fee) will be refunded if you drop a class or workshop no later than 7 days before the first class meeting. If you wish to drop a class after that point, you must call 515.271.0306 prior to the third class meeting to request a credit for future class sessions. After that date, no credit will be given except for documented medical emergencies.

Makeup Class

If a student is unable to attend a class period for any reason, the Art Center is not responsible for providing any makeup. The Art Center reserves the right to change instructors or to discontinue any class without incurring obligations.

Weather Cancellation Policy

The Art Center may cancel classes due to severe weather or other variables. Check KCCI, Channel 8, WHO Radio 1040, or the Art Center website for cancellation details. Cancelled classes are rescheduled.

Materials and Supplies

Please check course descriptions for possible model or material fees. Students in adult classes are responsible for providing their supplies. Most materials for children’s classes are furnished by the Art Center.

Staff Development Credit

Staff development credit is available through Heartland AEA for selected classes. An additional fee is required, payable to Heartland AEA. One hour of credit is given for 15 hours of instruction. Call 515.271.0306 for more information.

College Credit

Some courses qualify for college credit from area colleges such as Grand View, Simpson, and Upper Iowa University. Interested students should register with their college prior to registration at the Art Center. Graduate credit is available through Drake University’s Extension Program for RDG Dahlquist Art Studio classes.

Arrival and Departure

Children should arrive no more than 10 minutes prior to the start of classes. Parents are requested to pick up their children promptly at the end of each class.

In the case of an emergency or delay, please notify the Art Center at 515.271.0316. If you intend to pick up your child before the end of class, call 515.271.0316.

A parent/legal guardian must accompany the child to his/her designated studio and see that a staff member takes charge of the child. At departure time, the parent/legal guardian must pick up the child from his/her studio.

Photography

The Art Center occasionally documents the classes using photography or video for promotional purposes. If you do not want yourself or your child photographed, please notify the Art Center in writing.
