Students explore their imaginations through the creation of a unique short story, written as a group. The soft bound book is then published with accompanying illustrations representing each artist. SCULPTURE
Learn how to turn a 2-D idea into a 3-D form. Work on additive and subtractive methods of sculpting using a variety of found objects and traditional sculpture materials. Study works in the museum to see how artists use different sculptural techniques to convey ideas.

MOSAICS
This ancient technique is often considered painting without paint, the execution of designs by setting small tiles into wet grout. Using broken tile, ceramics, and/or found objects, design and make a project of your choice. Adults are welcome.

SURFACE DESIGN ON FABRIC
Using a variety of surface-design techniques, create yardage to make original scarves, tote bags, and simple clothing. Learn direct painting techniques, relief printing, dyeing and discharging, and silk-screen processes. Adults are welcome.

ALL-STATE ART CAMP FOR TEENS
ALL-STATE ART CAMP
The Art Educators of Iowa and the Des Moines Art Center invite energetic and motivated young artists to participate in the seventh annual All-State Art Camp. This camp is especially designed for students interested in pursuing the visual arts in college and those preparing portfolios for the AEI All-State Competition. Students entering grades 1012 in the fall of 2009 are eligible.
Visiting artist Tracy Duran teaches an introduction to figure drawing a nude model and Art Center faculty member Catherine Dreiss teaches an introduction to intaglio printmaking. Critiques and information on portfolio preparation are scheduled.
