smART FAMILY SUNDAY WORKSHOPS

Family workshops are designed for parents and children ages 5 and older. (Please plan for each adult to work with no more than two children.) All materials are furnished except where noted.

Please preregister and prepay by calling the Education Department at 515.271.0306 by the Wednesday prior to the workshop.

Each workshop begins promptly at 1 pm. Please arrive on time.

TOTE IT!

Be stylish while conserving paper and plastic. Personalize a reusable tote bag using printmaking techniques. One canvas tote bag per person is provided; you may bring in extra 100% cotton tote bags (prewashed and no fabric softener) to design.

BENTO BOXES AND FAUX SUSHI

Take a fascinating journey as you view the Japanese prints in the Art Center. Return to the studio and decorate a container with extravagant designs to create a bento box, a Japanese lunch box. Fill the box with sushi made from air-dry clay.

FABRIC SUN PRINTS

Use the sun to help decorate fabric for a bandana, pillow top, or whatever you choose. Paint the fabric, lay down a design, and expose it to the sun. Before you begin, get inspired by the Tara Donovan exhibition in the museum.

Take the alphabet to a new level as you learn paper folding and cutting techniques to create an original design of your name. Attach your creation to a board, making it suitable for hanging.
