LETTER AND LOGO ILLUSTRATION: BLACK METAL AND CALLIGRAPHY
Join us in this workshop dedicated to exploring the hyper stylized lettering and logos of various musical acts within the genres of Witch House, Doom Metal, and Black Metal. Students will be given tools to create their own logo in one or multiple styles along with a brief lesson on the creation of specific calligraphic Blackletter hands. The use of Unicode and Zalgo text in the Witch House genre will be shown and digital versions will be taught and used if desired. Once students are creating their logos and lettering styles, a lecture on the history of the musical genres of Witch House, Doom metal and Black Metal will be given. Specific styles of text that are tied to the musical genres will be explained, tying the music and art together. Works will be primarily made of black inks, gouaches, and watercolors that lend to a more expressive form of artistry, seen throughout the aforementioned music genres. Experimental forms of artistry can be explored, including fabricated maturing, embroidery, paper distressing, and handmade pen fabrication.
