This event is sold out.
Members at the Ambassador level ($140) and above are invited to join Associate Curator Mia Laufer for Art for Lunch. This limited in-person gallery talk is for the exhibition “Rembrandt and His Worldt”, which runs through August 27, 2023.
Rembrandt van Rijn (1606 – 1669) is one of the most celebrated figures in the history of art. A brilliant painter, printmaker, and draughtsman, throughout his prolific career Rembrandt explored a wide range of subjects and styles. His prints circulated widely and established his reputation throughout Europe.
Although best known for its exceptional holdings in modern and contemporary art, the Des Moines Art Center owns a remarkable collection of Dutch Golden Age etchings by Rembrandt and his contemporaries. “Rembrandt and His World” features examples of the artist’s iconic self-portraits, biblical scenes, and pictures of everyday life, all drawn from the Art Center’s permanent collections, alongside those of his contemporaries, including Jan Both, Karel Dujardin, Reiner Nooms, Adriaen van Ostade, and Jacob Salomonsz van Ruysdael.
Afterwards, enjoy lunch with Mia and fellow members at Tangerine – it’s on us!
