On February 11, 2024 at the Des Moines Art Center, “States of Becoming” curator Fitsum Shebeshe provided insight into the premise of the exhibition and introduced the work of 17 African artists working in the United States. One artist from each of the exhibition’s three thematic sections of the show then gave a more in depth preview of their work: Chukwudumebi Gabriel Amadi-Emina, Miatta Kawinzi, and Chido Johnson. Followed by Q&A with Art Center Senior Curator Laura Burkhalter and the audience.
