The Teen Academy curriculum includes instructor-led classes, independent work days, class critiques, museum discussions, and guest artist sessions.

Teen Academies

The goal of the Art Center’s Teen Academies is to create accessible, well-rounded art education for high school students in the Des Moines metro and surrounding areas. Students will have opportunities to work in a variety of art mediums and learn new and advanced techniques to grow their skill set. Through a variety of resources, students will build a cohesive body of work and gain the confidence to write and talk about their art.

The application is open to currently enrolled high school students. This program begins each September and runs concurrently with the academic calendar, with each Academy program meeting once per week. The Art Center offers transportation stipends for those in need of assistance. Applications close September 15.
