Des Moines’ Owl’s Head neighborhood holds a special place at the Art Center as home to several early supporters of the museum and school, including the Coffin family. Local authors, Sondra Ashmore and Christine Vickery, have published two books about the Owl’s Head neighborhood highlighting its history and significance.
‘Owl’s Head: A Hidden Gem’ features former residents who are nationally recognized artists, including photos of their works that have previously only been available in private collections.
‘Nighttime in Owl’s Head: A Bedtime Story’ is a children’s tale that introduces readers to some of Owl’s Head’s most charming inhabitants, both two-legged and four-legged, during an evening stroll.
Both books are available at The Shop at the Art Center. The Shop invites you to meet the authors for a book signing on Friday, May 20, from 4:30 – 6:30 pm in the Harriet S. and J . Locke Macomber Lobby.
