The Des Moines Art Center’s Museum Shop invites you to a special trunk show and sale featuring Durango, CO native Crystal Hartman, an artist and jewelry maker based in Urbana, IL. Hartman is committed to the lost process of wax carving and casting using primarily local, sustainably-harvested beeswax and reclaimed sterling silver, gold, and ancient bronze. Her work utilizes experimental practices in painting, artist books, and the lost wax tradition to explore possibilities of harmonious living and advocate for the natural world offering contemporary mythologies in which non-human life reigns. Through her process inspired by nature and growth, Hartman creates “elegant, strong, earthy stand-alone pieces and stackable stories.”
