World AIDS Day: A Day With(out) Art

In recognition of World AIDS Day, join us at the Des Moines Art Center for A Day With(out) Art — a day to come together using art, film, and music as a space for healing, remembrance, and hope. Founded in 1989 at the Museum of Modern Art, this event is a call to action, care, and reflection on AIDS’ impact. Art gives voice to the silence, inspiring compassion and support for those affected.

For the first time, the Art Center will screen Visual AIDS’ “seeds in a dying colony,” a program of four short films exploring the lasting effects of colonialism and the ongoing HIV epidemic. The afternoon will also feature a 20-minute performance by the Des Moines Gay Men’s Chorus and a public display of Iowa-connected panels  from the AIDS Memorial Quilt.
