DES MOINES, IOWA (July 2026) — Beginning in August, the Des Moines Art Center will launch Art for Every Body, a free program offered most 4th Thursdays of each month, that invites adults (ages 18+) to connect with art, creativity, and one another in a welcoming, no-pressure environment.

Each monthly session combines a guided gallery experience with a studio activity inspired by a selected artwork. Whether you’re a practicing artist, someone who hasn’t made art in years, or simply looking for a creative way to spend an evening, Art for Every Body invites participants to explore, reflect, and create—no prior art experience required.

This program was developed in response to growing community interest in accessible adult programming that combines meaningful engagement with art and opportunities for creative expression. Art for Every Body offers a welcoming space where participants can slow down, share ideas, and create alongside others.

“There is something profound that happens when people come together around art. Ideas are shared, connections are made, and we experience the benefits of creativity, inspiration, and well-being. Art for Every Body is designed as an asset-based program. We have this incredible museum and a community full of all kinds of people. What happens when we bring them together with intention, putting access and inspiration first? What can we create together?” “ said Mia Buch, Senior Manager of Museum Learning and Engagement.

Each session encourages participants to engage at their own pace through looking, conversation, and creative response. Support people and companions are welcome, and accommodations are available upon request during registration to help ensure the program is accessible to all.

Art for Every Body reflects the Des Moines Art Center’s commitment to creating meaningful encounters with art and people while fostering creativity, belonging, and lifelong learning.

The first Art for Every Body takes place on Thursday, August 27 from 5:30 – 7 pm at the Des Moines Art Center. Admission is free, and all materials are provided. Registration is required and space is limited.
