“Social Saturday: Entirely Kids” at the Des Moines Art Center on Saturday, March 14

DES MOINES, IOWA (February 2026) – Looking for something to keep the kids busy over Spring Break? Take them to the art museum! The Des Moines Art Center invites families and kids of all ages to play, create, and explore during “Social Saturday: Entirely Kids” on Saturday, March 14 from 11 am – 2 pm.

“Social Saturday: Entirely Kids” is packed with engaging performances and hands-on activities. Get your groove on with Pied Piper Studios by creating soundscapes inspired by Art Center artworks and joining a living orchestra of percussion instruments to create your own beats. Speaking of jamming, when was the last time you shook it all about? You won’t want to miss the largest rendition of the “Hokey Pokey” since Hayden Fry led a crowd of 7,384 to set the world’s record in 2010. The Art Center’s version will be slightly smaller than Hayden Fry’s version, but just as fun. We’re putting our whole selves into this one. That’s what it’s all about!

Throughout the day, visitors can enjoy pastel portrait drawing and sculpture making in the studios, an interactive story time, a guided tour of the museum, and a scavenger hunt – in addition to four exhibitions and permanent collection works on view. When the crew gets a little hungry, the Art Center Café offers pastries, grab-and-go snacks, or a sit-down lunch. Art Center members save 10% on all purchases in the Art Center Café and in the Museum Shop.

For those who arrive early enough, Pie Bird Pies will be celebrating Pi Day with free samples of delicious pies until supplies run out.
Social Saturday is a free, all-ages event held on the second Saturday of every month with a different theme each month. Follow the Art Center’s social media channels or visit the website for upcoming themes and programming. A complete schedule of events and activities can be found at desmoineartcenter.org.

Generous support for “Social Saturday: Entirely Kids” is provided by Principal® Foundation and Art Bridges Foundation’s Access for All program. Part of the Principal® Foundation Youth Learning and Engagement Initiative, “Entirely Kids” is a community tradition providing a space for joy and inspiration when families experience and create art together.
