DES MOINES, IOWA (July 30, 2026) – Tune into the fun at the Des Moines Art Center for “Social Saturday: Silent Disco” on August 8 from 11 am – 2 pm. Each month, Social Saturday offers a new theme with free, family-friendly activities for all ages to experience art, culture, and community together.

Dance your heart out to a silent disco experience hosted by Iowa Silent Disco from noon – 2 pm. Before or after, be sure to fuel up at the Art Center Café with delicious pastries, grab-and-go snacks, coffee drinks, or a sit-down lunch.

Listen to music as you explore the galleries with a custom playlist as your soundtrack, curated just for Social Saturday! Current exhibitions on view include: “Topographies: Mapping Being and Belonging”, “Elle Pérez: La Despedida”, “Christine Rebet: Sound of Time”, and “Artists Around a Table: Artmaking and Merrymaking, 1927-1952”. While you’re in the museum, find the interactive Art Cart for a special activity and take part in a scavenger hunt to earn a prize.

Families with young children can enjoy story time at 11:15 am with a selection of books inspired by art and creativity. Get busy creating in the Art School Studios by making disco mosaic ornaments or spend time sketching or drawing in the open studio space.

Browse the Museum Shop to find gifts and souvenirs – including exclusive Art Center merchandise. A special $10 and under table includes affordable art-inspired treasures.
