The Art Center continues to work with community partners to be proximate with new audiences. Several recent examples exemplify these efforts. The Des Moines Symphony has commissioned the composer Steven Heitzeg to create Symphony in Sculpture III, the third musical work by this award- winning composer in response to artworks in the Pappajohn Sculpture Park.
This new symphony responds to the three latest additions to the park: Yayoi Kusama’s Pumpkin (L), 2014; Ai Weiwei’s Iron Tree Trunk, 2015; and the most recent work to enter the park, Robert Indiana’s LOVE, 1966–1999.
