Partnering Organizations and Community Members: Art Spectrums (Youth 5-18 yrs. on the Autism Spectrum), Link Associates, Des Moines Public Schools, Des Moines Deaf Community, Des Moines Blind and Low Vision Community
The Des Moines Art Center Adaptive Arts programming is the most recent addition to Community Access offerings. Through Adaptive Arts, we work to create equitable art experiences for Disabled community members. This includes creating adaptive lesson plans as well as adaptive art tools. Teaching artists facilitating Adaptive Arts programming will either have extensive experience collaborating with folks with Disabilities or be Disabled themselves. The work of Disabled artists will be highlighted for participants, with the intention of fostering a sense of belonging in the arts.
