When the Des Moines Art Center opened its doors in 1948, one of the first celebratory events was a joyful gathering on the museum lawn. Acclaimed architect Eliel Saarinen joined the fĂȘte and is pictured in his suit carrying a slice of cake. Our community came together, galvanized by a curiosity to experience the modern spaces and treasures of the new museum. 75 years later, the awe and inspiration of the Art Center endures.
We invite you to a free community event as we remember the past with a touch of nostalgia and embrace the future with an eye toward innovation. Join us for a day of old-fashioned games, music spanning the eras, food trucks, and, of course, celebratory cake! Featured food truck vendors include: Hey Schweetie, Lacheles Fine Foods, Outside Scoop, and The Traveling Bean.
This event is free, and no registration is required. Scheduled to take place rain or shine.
