Artist Mary Miss and Des Moines Art Center Reach Settlement over Greenwood Pond: Double Site Environmental Sculpture
DES MOINES, IOWA (January 14, 2025) – The artist Mary Miss and the Des Moines Art Center today announced that a settlement has been reached concerning a lawsuit by Miss against the Des Moines Art Center over the environmental sculpture Greenwood Pond: Double Site. The artwork was commissioned for the Des Moines Art Center’s permanent collection and opened in 1996; it is located in Greenwood-Ashworth Park on land owned by the City of Des Moines. The settlement will end a breach of contract lawsuit filed by Miss on April 4, 2024, and allow the Des Moines Art Center to proceed with previously stated plans to remove the artwork in its entirety.
Miss is represented by the firm Wandro, Kanne & Lalor. The Des Moines Art Center is represented by the firm Belin McCormick.
