Call for Participation: Community Animation Showcase
Register for the free screening May 9, 2026
The Des Moines Art Center is now accepting submissions for a Community Animation Showcase, highlighting the creativity of local animators, in celebration of the exhibition “Honey, You’re a Wonderful Model: Maria Lassnig’s Animated Films,” on view at the Art Center February 14 – May 17, 2026.
This non-juried program welcomes all animation styles and levels of experience. Works must be under 15 minutes. Due to time constraints and family-friendly programming, not all submissions may be included. Submissions are open through April 10, 2026 through this LINK.
What it is
A friendly, non-juried screening of locally made animation—no competition, no judges, just a chance to share your work with an engaged audience at the Des Moines Art Center.
Who can submit
Animators living in Des Moines and surrounding Iowa communities. All experience levels welcome—students, hobbyists, professionals.
What we’re accepting
- Any animated form: 2D, 3D, stop motion, rotoscope, experimental, hybrid.
- Length: up to 15 minutes per film. (Shorter works help us show more!)
- File/Format: Provide a screening-ready .mp4 or .mov (H.264 preferred), 1080p, stereo sound. Also include an online preview link (private link is fine).
- Content notes: This is a public, all-ages setting. If your work includes sensitive content, please note it in your submission so we can provide context.
How to submit (free)
Complete the form by April 10, 2026 at 5 pm CST through this LINK.
Include:
- Title, runtime, year, creator(s), 50–100 word description.
- Preview link + password (if applicable).
- Screening file download link (or confirmation you can deliver it by April 9).
- Optional: artist statement, captioning file (.srt).
Selection and scheduling
This is a showcase, not a competition. Programming will be first-come, first-served and curated for flow and total runtime. We may group shorts into blocks or schedule multiple sets if interest is high. You’ll receive a confirmation by April 27.
Accessibility
The auditorium is accessible. Captions are strongly encouraged—please include an .srt if you have one. Tell us about any access needs in the form.
